Research agenda
The questions we are investigating.
Questions, proposed methods, public evidence and unresolved limitations are kept apart. Nothing here is a validated outcome. No trial results, laboratory partners, peer review or university involvement are claimed.
RQ-01 / Research question
Status: Question framedWhole-process contaminant fate
Under what operating and measurement conditions can a treatment route demonstrate destruction, safe capture, or controlled disposal rather than merely moving a contaminant to another stream?
- Evidence needs (proposed method)
- Feedstock speciation, input and output mass balance, process envelope, sampling of char, ash, condensate, gas and control media, emissions, uncertainty and third-party testing.
- Limits and cautions
- VRCRI does not assert measured PFAS destruction performance at any proposed plant. Any guidance used must be checked against the current PFAS National Environmental Management Plan and jurisdictional obligations.

RQ-02 / Research question
Status: Protocol proposedChar, digestate and humic systems
What can carefully controlled trials establish about nutrient retention, release, soil function and crop response from different recovered materials and combinations?
- Evidence needs (proposed method)
- Contaminant screening, comparative trial logic, independent scientist input, randomisation, treatment rates, power analysis and site approval.
- Limits and cautions
- A historical framework of 24 plots (six treatments, four replicates) is described only as a proposed preliminary protocol. No experiment has been completed or validated. Formulation details are not published.

RQ-03 / Research question
Status: Question framedWater, solids, energy and land interactions
How do feedstock variability, transport, water reuse, thermal demands, energy recovery, product quality and receiving-land constraints reshape the preferred system architecture?
- Evidence needs (proposed method)
- Explicit upstream and downstream dependencies, and a comparison of centralised, distributed and locally integrated options.
- Limits and cautions
- No single configuration is presented as universally optimal.

RQ-04 / Research question
Status: Question framedValid end use and stewardship
What sequence of tests, permissions, farm records and multi-year outcomes justifies describing a recovered material as useful and regenerative?
- Evidence needs (proposed method)
- Source, batch, processing, product QA, permitted use, site assessment, actual application, monitoring and corrective action, each recorded.
- Limits and cautions
- Physical carbon storage is separate from issued credits, and potential is separate from observed agronomic benefit.

How status is used
A status appears only if the editorial record supports it. Where no trial exists, the page says: protocol proposed, no experiment completed or validated.
- 1 Question framed
- 2 Evidence gathering
- 3 Protocol proposed
- 4 External review sought
- 5 Testing authorised
- 6 Testing in progress
- 7 Results published
- 8 Paused or closed
Claims on this site are classed as: documented report, measured source, interpretation, hypothesis, proposed design, example, unverified.
